I love "Nothing But the Blood of Jesus". This hymn has always shown the weight of the cross in such a simple way. I have heard renditions of this song my whole life but nothing beats the original by Robert Lowry. It is the most liberating truth to know that Jesus came way before us knowing every single sin in His past, present and future. With this knowledge He endured the cross, despising shame, and through his gruesome murder took on every single sin we will ever commit. He saw everything and still loved us. Jesus took our sin and threw it as far is the east is from the west and when He rose Himself from the dead He finished it. He brought salvation in to the world and gave us a way to freedom and God that was new. In fact He said, "I make all things new." All we have to do is believe in Him, confess it with our mouths and this salvation is ours. This is the greatest story of love, friendship and sacrifice the world has ever known and why it was a must for You Make My Whole Heart Sing.
"What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus."
