"Be Thou My Vision" speaks for itself. An 8th Century Monk named Dallan Forgaill is responsible for this gem. He wrote it in response to the bravery of St. Patrick who defied a kings order to not light any candle or fire on Easter until the his pagan festival was launched by the lighting of a fire. St. Patrick chose to light a candle in honor of the death and resurrection of Jesus even though he was threatened by death by doing so. The king was moved by his bravery and let him continue his missionary work unhindered.
I feel that this hymn in particular clarifies a proper perspective of what it means to follow Jesus Christ. It brings into focus the important truth that at the end of all things it will be just you and the Lord. I'll let the lyrics speak for themselves...

"Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heaven's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all."
