"On Christ the Solid Rock" is a profound hymn by way of the imagery. I think often of the parable about the man who built his house on the sand versus the man that built his house on the rock. In life it is all about your foundation. If you have a sturdy and stable foundation, your house remains intact when the violence of a storm comes. I find that when our hope is built on anything but Jesus, the very foundation of life becomes weak and our "house" starts to show wear and tear.

I have sung this song a million times from childhood un till now and the older I get the more close to home it resonates. Lyrics like...
"My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand."
Thes lyrics stand the test of time and give credence to the faithfulness found in the Lord. I think the challenge is that we put in the effort, daily, to build and rebuild our house on the solid rock.
